Stoudt says confidence not an issue
Did senior quarterback Cole Stoudt lose his confidence somewhere along the way this season? He says no. Stoudt spoke to the media Saturday afternoon and talked about his struggles and expectations for the Russell Athletic Bowl. Full Story » |

never said it was 100% healed and fine. Agree, it's got a lot to do with his performance. I believe he's been hurt way more than announced, since early in the season.

His shoulder has nothing to do with him constantly throwing into double

And sometimes even triple coverage. His shoulder isn't to blame for him not being able to read a defense. I'm sick of hearing about the shoulder excuse. We've all seen QBs play and play much better with much worse injuries. If you know the offense so well, go out there and show us. There isn't any player that this fan base is pulling for harder than you. No more excuses, put up or shut up time

The pressure that he has been under from opposing defenses has a LOT to do with throwing into double coverage. He has refused to place any of the blame on his protection, and rightly so, but a greater effort from the OL will make him a better QB. He certainly isn't as mobile as Watson and he depends on good blocking. Maybe in the next few weeks the new coordinators can develop a few plays that will allow him to leave the pocket. IF the downfield blocking continues to improve, Stoudt can certainly complete the 'jet sweep' passes to Scott etal. Blocking improved greatly in the usuck game. I hope that is a sign of things to come. I expect Oklahoma will try to take away the end runs that were successful against the chickens. I am anxious to see what Scott and Elliott come up with to surprise the Okie defense.

he could stand in the pocket for half an hour and still throw a pick (and has)
line has not been perfect and we have had breakdowns but this isn't an o line issue

We as fans often don't get the full scoop on injuries or their seriousness, which is understandable I guess. I have no doubt that that has impacted Cole's performance, however, I can't help but wonder if he's color blind too.

I'm so sick of hearing about his shoulder. If it's beenthe reason he sucks then put nick in bc he's too hurt to play. the shoulder has nothing to do with him staring down reciever and being scared to throw past 2 Yrd over the line of scrimmage.him saying this confidence crap shows be doesn't give a #### about clemson or if we win or lose. He's the only player who thinks he is too good to shake hands had give high fives at the tiger walk been to a lot of them and he is the only player I've ever seen that does that. Play nick and tell cole thanks for the time you have put in but we no longer need your services. And I no I will catch hell and prob be called a coot but if u cut me I bleed orange and this is how I feel about cole he doesn't gie a shut about clemson it's obvious so I dot give a #### about him playin his last game and losing it for us

With Stoudt, confidence is not the issue. It's a lack of talent. He is not a D-1 caliber QB, and never will be. Neither he or the coaching staff seem to get it. And he keeps coming out with these ridiculous statements about his "confidence." He shouldn't even be playing at Clemson. Why don't they give Nick a shot? Politics?

I agree, it's not a matter of confidence. It's a lack of talent. This is not Cole's fault, it's just a simple fact. He is not a D-1 caliber talent, and shouldn't even be at a program like Clemson. But, our coaching staff will start him, and we'll lose the game. Oklahoma is a very under rated team that has been plagued by injuries, like we have. They'll have their key players back---we won't. They possibly have the best offensive line in the country, and Stephone Anthony will miss the first half. As far as I know, we have no one who can even come close to replacing him. They have a 250 pound back who runs like a bulldozer. Their starting QB is back from injury. And we counter with Cole Stoudt?? The game could be out of control by half-time. Why not give Schleussler a shot? He's a big guy who reportedly has a rifle for an arm, and can run. But they won't.

No one, including Stoudt, is gonna argue that he's an all-world QB and the next Elway. However, he's gonna be starting the bowl game, whether you or I like it or not, and as such it seems like it makes nothing but sense to me to simply hope for the best, wish him well, and refrain from throwing rocks at him.
I actually talked with him a few minutes Friday night, and he seems the very epitome of a Clemson man. Polite, confident, humble and committed to trying his dead-level best on the field. I see no reason for us, as fans, not to support him as best we can.

for some unknown reason, got your little skirt all bunched at me publicly pulling for a Clemson player to do well and win. Not sure how long you have been a Tiger fan, but that's what we do, pull for the success of our players and team. You may need to seek treatment, if you aren't a coot, you have coot-like tendencies. You can change, I know you can.

OMG, a breath of reality. You'll get flamed as a coot. But there are really some of us out here who live in the real world. Good post. Could you imagine that there are some Carolina fans on here who are boosting Stoudt because they know we'll lose with him? Hmmm.

my a$$ is jealous). Secondly, you just simply can't have a Zima without a bag of Jolly Ranchers to go with them. Seriously though, he needs to play the best game of his career vs Okla. Unfortunately, that just means not throwing multiple interceptions, much less pick 6's. I'd take 1 int right now given the D we have, plus enough position talent on O (with some wrinkles built into the running game to help CS minimize the risks he has/needs to take) to get the job done. Regardless of the outcome of the bowl game, I'm extremely excited about the next few years of hopefully injury free CU football.

To Cole Stoudt, I have faith and believe, you are a great qb. To Streeter and Stoudt, work on your eye placement before the pass. Don't stare down receivers. That's why you interceptions are high. Again, I believe you can be great.

Has anyone actually checked to see if he's color blind? Maybe that's the issue. I mean he throws accurate precision passes to the DB's, its not like they have to work hard for the catch.

You know I really hope that Stoudht comes out and plays the best game win or lose. But at the same time my gutt tells me that it won't happen. He says his confidence has always been good and that he just can't get into a rhythm. I just have lost all my confidence in him being able to win the game for us. Still I hope he plays the best game he has played.

I agree, I think we all hope by some miracle he just forgets everything that happened this season and just tears up the joint. But, I just don't see it. I honestly don't think he'll get much of a chance to screw up tho, he probably won't throw more than 15 passes....most being toss sweeps and screens. Tho I wouldn't mind him throwing a handful of deep balls, just incase it is picked off it'll be no dif than a punt.

Honestly, the thought of Cole playing in this game doesn't make me nearly as nervous as it did during the season. I believe it's partially due to this being a post-season game. The pressure to win this one isn't as great as others. My hope is that he will have the same feeling and it will allow him to play better.

cant really figure out why the powers that be on this site even post anything about cole. all it does is give the idiots and morons a forum to continually throw the kid under the bus. cant we just leave the guy alone. he will be gone in 2 weeks.

It does seem like they've posted a "Stoudt's confidence" article 4 or 5 times this year lol. Not sure what their motive is behind it.

I think it would be nice to have three straight bowl wins over LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
It would be nice for our new coaches and Cole to win this game.
That's about the extent of my thinking at this point in the season.

What worries me is the way he talks about being in rhythm, some days you have it and some days you don't?? Has he ever heard of adjustments to change the rhythm or getting with his receivers and discussing what they are seeing and being on the same page? I have been to several games this year and watched the rest on TV and have yet to see him go over to the receivers and talk about the bad pass or interception, he just goes and stands on the sideline or sits on the bench simi isolated.
I sure hope he is in RHYTHM on the 29th because I would love for him to go out a winner.

All the veteran players know the offense. Would bet the trainers even know the offense. The problem is locking onto one receiver and letting the defense know with his head and eyes. you would think his Dad taught him this in the backyard. Just sayin.

just threw your coaches under the bus 'cause that's how they've defended you for about the entire season.
Plus, now there's not much left except simply that you're not that good.

The coaches many times have said in various formats: "We've got to get Cole's confidence back. He lost it somewhere." That was their excuse for his performance. Even the new coaches just promoted just said it: "We've got to get his confidence restored."

Besides some glaring mistakes and throwing into double coverage and throwing an interception or three or a pick six or two and not being as nimble and quick with his feet...
This Stoudt player is not all bad, is he?
With all that as a given and set as a foundation, have you noticed that when QB Cole plays, the called plays often do not run right in terms of every player doing their best and fulfilling their role? The guy has some darn bad luck to go along with a supposed "Non lack of confidence" problem.
Example: In uscjr game, first time DW4 goes out, Cole comes in and rolls out, throws to wide A$$ open Hopper, ball sails right thru his hands and hits him in face and he does not catch it. We punt. - That ain't on Cole. Hopper catch the ball = first down.
Late, DW4 is out... Cole throws the quick screen out there... one of OLinemen is slower to get out and block the uscjr player who the easily comes up and stops the play COLD. Stones our guy as BV likes to say. Again Cole did not do that.
Cole needs to play 100% better. He needs to get into his rhythm to gain our confidence and the team's.
I hope everyone plays 25% better to help Cole. I hope the Coaches call plays that maximize Cole's best traits and minimize weaknesses.
He is the Clemson QB for the bowl game and I want Clemson to win. So I will support him.
If we can run the ball somewhat effectively.. if Cole can get a few third down conversions with his feet... if we can get some of the edge with jet sweeps... if the wildcat can be effective 40% of the time... if Cole can be quick, calm and smarter in the pocket... if Cole can get the ball out faster... if Cole does not have to do many 5 to 7 step drops... if the TEs can come out of hibernation... if Cole can hit on some early deep throws to keep OU Defense somewhat honest...
then perhaps we can win this bowl with an average offense.
OU has their starting QB back. Hope our D plays lights out because up above... that is a lot of IFs.
Go Cole. Go Scott/Elliot/Streeter. Go Tigers.

That pass that was dropped by Harper was thrown by DW as he was rolling out and threw it on the money while being on the run.
Stoudt threw the ball to his checkdown after that and didn't get a first down.

First of all, Cole didn't throw the pass that hopper dropped against scar. DW did, he came out after that play and Cole threw the screen pass after that for -3 yards.
Second, that's a mighty big list of things to happen when Cole is in the game. These are things that starting d1 qbs can do in their sleep. He just plain flat out does not have it. He will never have it. Its funny how he talks about how he needs to get in a rhythm. How long does he need? 2 maybe 3 seasons? Give me a break. He's had plenty of snaps to find a rhythm. He just sucks and no coaching will help him.

So it's lack of talent? Inability to read defenses ? Oh he has fun throwing pick-sixes it's enjoyable and loosens him up. Gotha!

I pray he has a good game, especially with Wayne Gallman able to run the ball. However, from watching him play, it is not confidence, it is ability.

To stop the run, due to a QB, they have no fear for. Not too mention they have a top 10 rush defense. They spells doom
