Never thought about that but makes great sense. Often wondered why older voices were so much better and exciting to listen too.

Heck, Bob Fulton used to do major league baseball games

I have seen this posted before. Here is the video of Jim Phillips' voice as if he were calling the glorious Watson to Renfrow play that sealed the championship:

outside doing yardwork with a transistor radio, I listened to Jim Phillips every football Saturday and every basketball game also! His excitement and ability to bring the game right to me, would have me jumping and running all over the yard with joy! There will NEVER be another "Voice of The Clemson Tigers" to take his place! "THE KICK IS UP,.........THE KICK IS.........GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!"

Great man and “The All Time Voice of the Tigers” for sure. Brings back memories of my dad and me listening to basketball. Week night games were listened to in his bedroom in case he fell asleep. Tuned in on the flip number clock radio. Football, we listened anywhere the radio would come in but had to stay in signal range that day. Simpler times that I’m glad I got to be a part of.

I remember from back when he was the sports director
on WFBC in Greenville.I still have an old 8 track tape
of him calling the bowl game game between OSU and
Clemson when old Woody punched one of our players.
I'll never forget that voice...none can compare.

Whitehurst led the team right down the field for a TD. Bob hadn't called a game in 9 years, and did a great job. Like riding a bike. One of my favorite memories of that was all the fans in front of the radio booth watching Bob the entire drive with their radios on, smiles on their faces as they watched and listened to him call a game for Clemson. Bob was a great guy
