Cops that direct traffic

Oct 25, 2013, 8:49 AM

seem to be worse than in years past. I've been to plenty of big games, sold out games, and never have I been to a game where traffic directing was as horrible as it was sat. night. It may have been the fact that everyone was leaving at the same time but watching the way the cops were handling Williamson/Perimeter was just comedic. Let one car out of lot 20 let 1 go, let one out, let one go. It was horrible. And only one lane of perimeter was open to williamson....

Or was it just me?

They did. Unfortunately the traffic directing was so bad they were sitll sitting in their cars in their lots when the game was over....We got in the car in our lot (lot 9) about 11:30 and didn't turn onto Perimeter until 1am

Re: Cops that direct traffic

Oct 25, 2013, 8:53 AM

If I were trained to do it I would. I'm not sayign it isn't hard but there are some things that are just common sense. Like letting a few cars go here and letting a few cars go there and alternating. Not let one go let another go let one go let anothe go. It takes a few seconds just to stop the car behind so you can change the path for the other lane. It was horrible man.

Why would someone go to a Clemson game to direct traffic?

Nah. Think we should leave that to the people who get paid to do it.

Re: Cops that direct traffic

Oct 25, 2013, 11:06 AM

LOL well it would have been more fun than the game

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Frankly, they do a worse job than the traffic light.

Oct 25, 2013, 8:54 AM

And people need to get some balls to turn out in traffic, and it needs to go every other whenever it applies.

Not just you!

Oct 25, 2013, 9:15 AM

We were also in Lot 20 and watching the cop at perimeter road I made the same comments as you. The Georgia game, when everyone left at the same time, was easier than this past Saturday when people started leaving at halftime. My wife, who never gripes compared with me, said: "Did they put all of the stupid cops on this side of the campus tonight?"

about all of us!

Re: so which of us are going to contact IPTAY about it? How

Oct 25, 2013, 9:23 AM

That isn't an IPTAY problem. That's a state trooper problem. And nothing you can really do. Just hope you get a cop with some sense.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Here's my take ... IPTAY has to pay for the troopers to be

Oct 25, 2013, 9:36 AM

there to direct traffic. I say this because my church has to pay two policemen to direct traffic for us on Sunday mornings.

Therefore, it is an IPTAY problem since they arrange for the number and hours the troopers are there to direct.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:43 AM

Yeah but I don't think they can dictate how traffic is directed. Only that it is.

Re: They are getting paid OT. So, it isn't thankless.

Oct 25, 2013, 5:34 PM [ in reply to They are getting paid OT. So, it isn't thankless. ]

I am a cop and although I dont work the games I have plenty of friends who do. Not all are being paid an OT rate. Many are forced to flex their time for regular duty hours. Those that dont flex are making good money but many of them are being forced to work it when they would rather be home with their families. Directing traffic is hard and often what you are seeing at your lot or intersection is predicated on what is happening at the intersections or lots up the road.

I'm certainly not saying they can't screw up but I can speak from experience that by the time the game lets out ALL of those Troopers, Deputies and Officers are ready to go home and are not milking their lots or intersections. If there was a way to keep the flow going and get out of their quicker they would be doing it.

experience twice this season, no one was directing the Williamson exit from Lot 10 until two hours after the game. Very frustrating.

I saw a story on WYFF news last week that said they make $33 per hour for their "thankless task". They don't care if they are out there all night. Both the UGA and FSU games were awful.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oct 25, 2013, 9:30 AM

That Williamson road. It's ridiculous trying to get out of there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For the two night games so far this year, they have

Oct 25, 2013, 9:32 AM

failed at moving traffic effectively.

I sent email to IPTAY office and received a canned response of, "We'll look into it."

Two hours to get out of a parking space and then one more hour of waiting to get out of the lot is inexcusable. I park in Lot 10.

problem getting out (maybe 30 min max). Last Sat I didn't even get out of my space for almost 2 hours.

Finally some people backed up and we all went out the Perimeter road exit. I was amazed at how well everything was flowing...except for Williamson Rd.

They had already opened up some of the roads to 2 way traffic by then...but lot 10 was still full.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We always try to take the Perimeter Road exit.

Oct 25, 2013, 11:28 AM

But, last Saturday's exit was slower than normal. It took us about an hour and a half to get out. The Williamson Road exit is AWFUL!
