Consider this scenario: Wake Forest runs the table. Then

we beat a 11-2 UNCheat in the ACC Championship game (assuming of course, that they beat Pitt, Virginia, GT and Nancy Tate---which I believe they will). I don't think we lose to anyone remaining on our schedule, with ND being the toughest remaining out.
We also assume that Wake beats UNCheat (at home) and Cuse (at home)...I think they easily beat Lville, Nancy Tate and Duke.
Wake's only loss (theoretically) would be to an unbeaten Clemson team. Using SEC logic, shouldn't that put Clemson and Wake into the playoffs??

Same logic... different outcome. The media wouldn't allow that to happen.

Thankfully, the media doesn't decide who makes the CFP. The committee examines the facts carefully. Pack was talking about it on his show last week.

The committee knows who holds the TV contracts. Regardless of how many times they get run off the field the bottom line is OSU and Michigan have the largest student body and alumni associations of all P5 schools. ESPN wants those viewers and the CFP board wants that ESPN contract. The trick is hiding these historic butt whoopins and keeping enough BIG10 schools inflated in the polls to ensure they're around to be blown out again. Look at the most lopsided victories in CFP history and you'll see behind their curtain.

Stuff like that, if it were to happen, is the best argument

for Playoff expansion. The pundits always say that "Teams X and Y are Head and Shoulders above the rest in College Football" each year. But, also each year, there are several teams who could make a case for the 3rd, or certainly the 4th spot. Once it expands to 12 teams, honestly, any team with a legitimate shot to win it all will be in the tourney.

There are currently 68 teams in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Every year someone bellyaches about being left out. It won't solve anything. More football doesn't mean better football. We can barely field two games that don't see someone taken to the woodshed. I've already witnessed the UGA Oregon blowout and don't need to see it again.

It's the ultimate 'Fool's Gold' weekend. One can amuse themselves by looking back through the years at those Week 1 or early September games and wonder why the season for those winners didn't prove 'transitive'.

Todd Blackledge made the same statement yesterday with the Wake/Clemson scenario and both being strong candidates for the CFP if that played out.

Assuming Cuse can beat Wake (which I don't think they can)......yes.

Wake's only loss (theoretically) would be to an unbeaten Clemson team. Using SEC logic, shouldn't that put Clemson and Wake into the playoffs??
At this point, it looks like our Tigers will be lucky to get in the CFP -- UNLESS we blast our opponents in the next 4 or 5 games.

I don't think any of us like seeing 2 SEC teams in the playoffs, but to be fair, both SEC teams have won their 1st round games each of the 2 times it's happened. I also don't think Georgia and Bama both getting in last year was due to anyone "trying to get 2 SEC teams in." I think it was simply because there were no other great options. ND was the next highest ranked team and I don't see how they were more deserving. Every other team had at least 2 losses. I think if you had an unbeaten Clemson or an unbeaten or even 1 loss Big 12 or PAC 12 team that it may have been different.

if there are at least four Power 5 conference champions with 12 wins or more.
A conference champion with at least 12 wins has never been left out of the CFP except for that year when Notre Dame was 12-0 and made it in over the 12-1 Big Ten Champ.
The play-off committee's protocol is to incentivize conference championships.
