DJ needs a different system and a different coach. Going back to last year's system isn't going to do him any favors.

What are his strengths and what system would highlight them?

His strengths are:
He works hard!
He has a winning record.
He has size ( that is something you have or don’t have)
He has height ( he can see the field)
He can run the ball and has proven that.
He had incredible arm talent!
Now perhaps he threw it to hard and that could account for some of the drops.. I would be willing to bet that DJU had more dropped passes than anybody in CFB
I also think that most of his issues are in his head . If He can figure out that she will be great!
I wish him well!

There's two ways of looking at this.
The first is simple - our system isn't working for him, so he has to try something different. Simple as that.
The second way of looking at it is your question - what kind of system does he need, other than just "different". I won't claim to be an expert, but I'd guess more of a traditional pocket-passer role. He isn't great at the RPO, making fast reads, etc, that our offense requires. He does best when he has time in the pocket to make his reads, plant his feet, and make a throw. I actually think that a west-coast or air-raid style might be better for him.

Those systems require a QB to find the open man and deliver

the ball accurately and on time. Reading defenses is not his strength.
I thought we did a good job of maximizing his limited running skills. There just isn't a system that requires nothing from the QB but handing it off or always throwing to the first read or where the pocket never collapses. You have to able to make good quick decisions and move your feet with some athleticism.

also he wants to be back on the west coast. We wont see him go to an East coast school. Early thoughts from the "experts" is a package deal with his brother to UCLA.
