Clemson Lifers vs Fairweathers

You can definitely tell the difference, especially with how loud the ones crying for Dabo to blow up and change the place that he built because they desperately need the assurance that they won’t have to find a new team due to falling off. Dabo has built something bigger then just football, and people really just want to scrap it smdh

I find it interesting people are immediately considered fair-weather fans, if they don't agree with you. I didn't know the definition of fan included agreeing with literally every decision the head coach makes.

You have absolutely zero idea what exactly I’m talking about or who I’m referring to. But if the title fits wear it, nothing wrong with disagreeing with Dabo. What I’m referring to are the people who want Clemson to start tampering to throwing values away for wins which is the most absurd thing I’ve ever read

What’s this throwing away our values for wins

You speak of? You mean hiring a coach from outside the program? Or giving some kid on the transfer portal, one who didn’t initially choose Clemson, a second chance to better himself?

Talking to players on opposing teams who might want to transfer but hasn’t come out and declared for the portal. Same thing Georgia and Bama are doing which is tampering. I’m all for Dabo adjusting to the portal and bringing outside coaches in.

I totally agree with your impatience with anyone not being all in with the positive healthy culture Dabo has made a foundation of his program I do not believe some “lifers” as you call them would not be in the camp calling for radical immediate change. They fear NIL and Portal consequences and believe aggressive action is required regardless of the impact to the positive aspects of Dabo culture.
Every program has overly zealous fans who believe the only way to compete is to employ the unethical tactics they assume everyone else employs. Fair weather is not the description I would choose, guess I’d call them the “win at any cost” crowd. They exist in every organization and it takes strong leaders like Dabo to protect the program from them.
Thank God for Dabo, he is continuing to lead Clemson in a way we should all be proud but more importantly he will continue to provide leadership to College football as the example other teams are striving to duplicate. NIL and Portal be ######. He will control their direction and won’t allow them to control him.

Makes sense. I 100% agree. I would be disgusted if we were doing what Texas is doing as I see the big picture. A healthy sport benefits everyone whereas what we are seeing now will ultimately lead to fans tuning out.

Amen!! I can remember sitting with my dad in a dove field in 1977 listening on the radio (sitting on a stump) and we beat UGA 7-6 in Athens for the first time in a like a zillion years. After the misery of the early 70s it felt like a miracle. That was the start of the late 70s-80s run.

I agree with you and I am a Dabo sunshine pumper. He has earned the benefit of the doubt. 2015 Tigers team that could have beaten Bama that year(M.Williams was hurt). The composite class ranking was only 18th best Freshman to Senior that year He's taken a not ideal situation and made the most of it, so he's earned some slack.
But, nobody is above having a bad day. Starting with me. It doesn't make you fairweather in my opinion by asking why! We are all cyber couch coaches anyway. Aren't at practice, etc. So keep it in perspective when you hear it Ask, what does it really matter what x poster thinks.

Sure, it is better to have a positive outlook than being negative all the time but when you're the highest paid state employee you should expect being critiqued. I'm a Clemson Alum and fan for the past 26 years so I don't wan to hear about fair weather fan. We are blessed to have seen the success of the past decade. Success can easily breed arrogance and complacency. I hope that is not the case with the current team. We have all seen what one special QB can do for a team so there is hope for next year.

Like I said earlier never called anyone directly a fair weather fan and also never said that we couldn’t critique or disagree with Dabo. But should’ve been a given everyone thinks a post is made directly about them.

He gets critiqued yearly by his boss. Everyone who works at Clemson sets goals from year to year. The next year they are evaluated on how successfully those goals were met.

A couple of thoughts for you

You've been here for a little over two months (unless you are a scok or a re-invention of a failed former identity here). Assuming you're new, you really need a little more time before you presume to judge the personalities and motivations of other posters. Some of us have been here for over 25 years. We've seen a lot, heard a lot, and got a LOT of context regarding Clemson football that ranges long before the current era. Dabo has been wonderful for Clemson football; but there was a lot of great Clemson football history before 2008.
Also, you're averaging almost fourteen posts a day so far. I've noticed a strong reverse correlation between post volume and substance. In other words, lots of people post here all day every day and say very little. Don't be that guy.

I see some recruiting tactics that need to change oversigning and selectively using the portal to keep up with the times. And this may not be enough for Clemson in the current landscape. These kids have very little integrity and do not keep their word. I guess you can call a Clemson fan since birth a lifer. 47 years of bleeding Orange, but yes I have concerns about Clemson being able to stay relevant in CFB in the NIL world.

Why....

....would you support a team made up of "kids with very little integrity who do not keep their word"? It sounds like you're supporting a gang.
