Championship Game Appearances by the ACC and Big10 over 20yr

Aug 2, 2023, 12:40 PM

Over the past two decades, the ACC has put a member in the title game of football, basketball, or baseball 20 times. The Big10 has 9 appearances over that same timeframe.

The ACC leads in every individual sport there as well: 5 to 4 in football, 11 to 4 in basketball, and 4 to 1 in baseball.

Wow, that is amazing! So maybe a few of them should join the ACC instead of the other way around.

Point being, the goal is to develop young people by striving

to win on the field, not by striving to have the biggest TV contract.
Would more money help? Assumedly so, but the last two decades would prove it isn't everything. Shoot, our in-state rival has had the added money benefit yet has a trophy case full of dust to show for it.

To me, the best solution would be for the ACC to somehow lure Notre Dame and Navy into the league, and get a new contract on par with the Big10 and SEC. The second best choice is going SEC. The worst choice is Big10.

Agree, but good luck on ACC getting a contract on par with SEC and BIG. Very slim chance ND joins a conference. So based on your stats I would lean very heavy to joining SEC.

The way to get ND in the conference and preserve the ACC is to cut a TV deal with NBC sports. That will give more competition in the TV landscape and lessen the ESecPN stranglehold

Good point BUT the disparity hasn’t been an issue until the last couple of years when it grew to 20+ million/year. Over time that will be a BIg issue.

The money gap over the previous 2 decades wasnt

anywhere near what it's about to be. I don't know if you can make a valid comparison.
