This team is gonna get slaughtered by whomever wins the West.

He is 3-5 through 8 appearances , with his 9th try on deck . I think he is an amazing player with incredible skill and determination... but if he loses this year it will kind of , in my mind at least … deadlock him as the 2nd greatest player of all time .
He will need to at least get to .750 win percentage in NBA championships to even have a valid argument as to being on MJ's level .
MJ could own teams , and he could take over championship games late and totally will his team to victory . Lebron lacks that when the chips are down … he fades too much . All the great ability in the world isn't enough .. you have to be able to block it all out and perform at your highest level when it matters the absolute most .. MJ did that almost every single time , LJ just hasn't and I feel like he may not do so again this year .
We'll see.

MJ had arguably the greatest coach in history and a heck of a lot better team most of his finals. LeBrons Heat years are about the only comparable ones because he actually had a good team and good coach.

Lebron is a whiney chode. He couldn’t have Phil Jackson as a coach because he has to have control of the team.
He has had such an easy path to the finals each year. He beat a Boston team by the skin of his teeth. It would have been a blowout if kyrie and heyward we’re both playing.
And the no talent thing is absurd. He has had one of the top centers and top gaurds on his team each year. He makes his centers look like garbage.
He’s a hell of an athlete and incredibly gifted but he’s no MJ

When has he had a top center on his team??? With the Heat he had some good players on the back end of their careers. Bosh was good but not a top center more of a PF anyways. His Cavs teams have not been that great. Say what you want about Irving and Hayward out they have been out for a long time so that is not excuse. I am not making excuses for Lebron he has had some good players and should have won more rings but he has not been in anywhere near as good of an organization as the Bulls were in the 90s. He is no MJ for sure. They are completly different players and no way would this Cavs team be in the finals if MJ replaced Lebron.

Never said he didn't win it without an elite center. I said the Bulls organization and team was better most of the 6 championships compared to the 8 finals teams lebron has taken.

This team Lebron is playing with right now does not even equal 1/2 of what Micheal had at his disposal. He won last night without Kevin Love the second best player in that team. That would be like Micheal winning without Scotty. Oh wait, never mind, that never happened.

And 1 of those 3 wins was orchestrated by the commissioner. I would argue that his return this year has been orchestrated by the NBA to sell advertising for the Finals. I mean, who cares about a bunch of "not yet" name Celtics?

So in your eyes he needs to win 12 straight NBA Finals to get to a 75% winning percentage in Finals appearances? That would leave him 15-5.
Going to be a tall task but if he wins this year and goes the next 11 years he can finish his career at 44 years old with 19 consecutive Finals trips and those 15 titles. Going to be interesting to watch that unfold.

So we are just going to ignore all those times that MJ lost in the ECF?
You have to admit it's pretty ridiculous to count Finals appearance as worse than failing to make the Finals at all.

Yes the east was better. 4 teams with 50+ Ws in the regular season. How many did the west have? Toronto beat Houston both games in the regular season so what on earth makes you guys believe that the west is better?

I agree the west is deeper but this year the east has been just about as good if not better towards the top. Most years recently the west has been way better but you cannot say that this year. I am sure you said the same thing 2 years ago about the west winning with ease so we will see. I won't have any excuses. Houston and GS have much better teams all around no doubt.

I'm not sure how you can watch the WCF and the ECF in parallel and not come away with the conclusion that GS and Houston are vastly superior to both Cleveland and Boston. The Cavs can't defend at all and they are going to get absolutely eviscerated by either of those offenses.

The east is not as finesse as the west for sure but different styles of basketball does not mean one is better than the other just because it may be more fun to watch to some people. Cleveland will beat Houston in 6 imo and if it is GS I could see it going to 7 and idk who will win.

True that. It just depends on if Korver and Smith can get hot. Lebron is going to do his thing ofcourse. I would rather the Rockets win tonight because GS is dang hard to beat at home if Curry and Thompson get going. KD is going to get his as always. Not saying Cleveland will win for sure but I believe they have a good chance. Gotta play better D though for sure.

Yes it is going to be hard to beat GS. Being at home helps a lot tho. CP3 being out does not help tho. Harden is going to have to be deadly from 3 if they want to win. They need another big game from Ariza and Gordon. Houston has to shut down one of the big 3 and keep Green in check. Should be a great game!

Didn't Jordan lose 9 of his first 10 playoff games, and lose 3 times in the first round, before Pippen joined the Bulls? Lebron has never lost a first-round series. Nobody does it alone, though.. not even the greatest players.

Scottie Pippen was better than anyone Lebron has had as a teammate. Pippen was easily a top-10 player in his prime, probably top 5.

The thing that annoys me with the Lebron "debates"
May 28, 2018, 6:42 PM
|

(and the Lebron vs MJ "debates" in particular) is the ridiculous hyperbole and the glossing over / ignoring facts from people on BOTH sides. So many people are just completely stuck on their side and unwilling to acknowledge even the most obvious truths from the other side.
Just for example, MJ playing on better teams during his championship runs can be true (because it is true), but it doesn't have to mean that MJ was an inferior player (because he wasn't). MJ playing on great teams doesn't diminish his own greatness - it shouldn't be regarded as a knock on him or a blemish on his resume.
It is, however, a contributing factor in MJ winning 6 titles and going 6-0 in Finals vs Lebron winning 3 titles and going 3-5 (soon to be 3-6) in Finals. That's one reason why titles shouldn't be weighed quite as significantly as they often are. I'm not saying they aren't a very big criteria, because they are, but lets not pretend like Terry Bradshaw was some all time great QB just because he won 4 SBs playing with the Steel Curtain. Anyone that thinks Bradshaw was better than Dan Marino is just crazy... You have to look at more than just titles.
Personally I'm still team MJ, but if you can't watch Lebron play and acknowledge that he's an all-time great and right up there in the GOAT discussion, you are just blinded by hatred towards the man.

Agreed! Both are amazing and we are lucky to have seen play. I am a 90s baby so ofcourse I will favor Lebron because I have seen it more. I watched some Jordan on the back end of his career but I was a young boy then. I have seen highlights and replays of games tho ofcourse and you cannot deny his greatness. Lebron doesn't have many of the things that MJ had but same goes for MJ not having things Lebron had. They are different types of players and were in different eras on different teams. Hard to compare. Both are the goat imo.

He's got seven.
Out of the five that LeBron has lost, two of those I'm pretty sure involved him carrying CBA teams on his back. Name one player from the first Cleveland team he took. Then recall him having to go against the Warriors without Irving and Love due to injury the first time around. Series went 6 with Matthew Delladova playing PG or something like that. Not sure why people hate the guy so much.

I'll never understand how MJ's finals record is cited with no reference to his litany of playoff losses before the Finals.
If MJ hadn't lost in the 1st round several years, the 2nd round several years, and the ECF several years, he would probably have a 6-6 Finals record. He didn't even make it to the Finals, though.

teams standing in Jordan's way early in his career. The East, outside of whatever team Lebron has been on, has been garbage for much of the last decade. That was not the case in the late 80s and early 90s when MJ got beaten by the likes of the Bad Boy Pistons and the Bird/McHale/Parish/Ainge Celtics dynasty.
5 of his 6 playoff defeats came at the hands of those two teams. All five of the teams that eliminated him made the finals and 3 of them won the title with the other two losing to the Showtime Lakers dynasty that featured Magic, Kareem, and James Worthy.

The talent level of the league is so much higher than it was in the 90's.
I think saying the East was trash just because LeBron dominated it is disingenuous.

West of the same era. There's plenty of evidence on my side. Go look at the team records. Go look at the records of games played between East and West teams. Go look where the majority of the star player are. Go look at Lebron's record in the NBA Finals. I would say that since 2011, this is the first year that Lebron hasn't had, by far, the best team in the East (and that's really only because his team just isn't very good this year, not because the East has caught up) yet he's still lost the majority of his finals appearances to even better teams from the West.

The east has caught up for sure this year compared to years past. It is not as deep as the west but the top 8 is equal if not better on the east side.

This might catch a lot of heat, & so be it. Kenton is not the greatest bastball player of all time. Neither is MJ. Those 2 are the greatest athletes to ever play the game, in my opinion of course. The greatest actual basketball player argument takes place with a few played from the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s.
I’m not trying to take anything away from MJ or Lebron. I grew up watching MJ & once he got past Detroit it was magical. Lebron skills are ridiculous. But we all keep trying to compare athletic skill to basketball skill & it’s not equal. Give Bill Russell or Wilt the ability to take 4 steps along with a jump stop & they win games by themselves back in the day.
PS Len Bias would’ve been the best player ever. Coke is a helluva drug.

The big difference is that bron plays in the snowflake era where stars are babied by the refs. If bron gets sneezed on its a double tech but he can bulldoze opponents on offense no problem. Despite getting babied he still loses his cool a LOT.
When MJ played it was a more physical game. Bron woulda needed a shamwow

That didn't like him winning.
LeBron's haters are different. The whole 'decision' thing has driven it...even though that was a tv show that raised money for charity.
Or it's the people who are zealous for Jordan to not be debated as the g.o.a.t
I suppose in the Internet age there would have been more Jordan hate. But he certainly is revered now.
And yes LBJ gets hacked. Not that hard to see.

The Bulls NEVER faced a team like the Warriors
May 29, 2018, 9:24 AM
|
|
Simple as that. These Warriors would have slaughtered any team that MJ beat in the finals. It wouldn't have been fair.
Let's also not mention the fact that help defense was not allowed during MJ's time and his 2nd 3-peat magically lined up with the 3 years that the NBA shortened the 3-point line. Now Steph is shooting from like 10ft behind that shortened 3-point line with ease. He would have been unstoppable back then without help defense.
Michael was phenomenal. Who knows what he would be like in today's league. All that I know is that Michael never had to overcome the lack of talent on his own team like Lebron has and never faced a team like the Warriors, who are widely considered the best team to ever play.
If I'm starting an all-time team right now... Lebron is my first choice followed by Steph and then KD. Maybe it is recency bias... but I just cannot fathom any player having a chance to stop Steph or KD from any generation. These guys would have never missed with the shortened 3-point line.

Might have been "rough"
May 29, 2018, 10:31 AM
|
|
But the players today are bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. Just like in the NFL, where we are constantly trying to make the game less physical. Do you know why? It's because our athletes keep getting more physically impressive, so we have to make them not kill each other.
That argument is made so many times that "current players couldn't play in a rougher league." Well what about the reverse? Those rougher players could never play in this more technical league because their defense relied on physically bullying the offensive players rather than actually defending them properly.

He would not stop KD from scoring 25 if KD was playing well. He has never seen a player close to as good as KD is with that height and range. Which same could go the other way tho. I would love to watch it to but KD is unguardable if he is on. I mean I could go out and guard kd and slow him down lol.

You cannot deny that the east was a lot better this year than in the past 5 years. People try to act like Lebron making the finals 8 years in a row means nothing because the east is no good. I personally think the east was better than the west this year when looking at the 8 playoff teams on each side.

So what would KDs stat line look like if said clamps were put on him. I'm just trying to understand what you mean by saying that. Would be keep him from scoring 40 points? Possible. Would he keep him from shooting over 40% and getting 25+ points? Doubtful.

It would be fun to see that is for sure. Pippen could for sure get in his head I believe. KD gets frustrated very easily. He is amazing when he is on his game tho. I don't think anybody ever with his height and length has that much skill and ball handling.
