of course the Washington time piece has nothing to do with the OP.
But if you want to know why we no longer have a free press in this country, it is because 6 conglomerates own all of the news channels and papers in this country, each bending over for their own corporate interests.
We used to have a fairness doctrine that required news outlets to report on both sides of the issue, as well as the Sherman anti trust act that prevented these corporate mergers.
Unfortunately a smooth talking alzheimer's patient defunded the FTC and repealed the fairness doctrine, setting the stage for our current state of affairs with regard to corporate consolidation of our media outlets.
I for one am far more scared over the impact of the this time warner merger and the potential impact on the availability of information in this country.

Do you understand what the "Freedom" is from in
Feb 20, 2014, 2:22 PM
|

"Freedom of the Press"? It's not corporate interests. It's your government.
Please select the best answer:
"In 2014, it is (easier)/(harder) for someone to get their opinions disseminated to the public at large."
The correct answer, of course, is "easier". Thanks Al Gore!
Did Sherman get repealed and I missed it?
Do you think having Fox and MSNBC, along with CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc...with their obvious biases...is more dangerous than the President putting monitors in the news room and chiming in on what gets reported and what doesn't?

Why do people continue to believe things like "InfoWars"?

It's truly remarkable how quickly some people will take whatever they see on their favored biased outlets and copy it for others to see as if it's gospel.
For those who want to know what these biased-outlet-believing freaks are getting all crazy about, here's the super-scary report by President Obama and oh wait Obama didn't actually do this at all.

People's over the top admiration, or over the top disdain for the administration and/or the President seems to make them blind from the actual problem. I don't care "who" is doing it.
The government is getting far too big, and is gobbling up far too much control.

didn't actually DO this...they just spent (probably millions of) our tax money to fund a study to see how they SHOULD do this if they chose to?
Excellent.
One of the numerous things that baffles me about this administration is how much this guy can get away with that is worse than W. His biggest supporters loved him because he was going to do everything differently than W did. Now that he does things WORSE than W did, they love him all the more. It makes no sense to me. It's like Obama supporters define right and wrong by what Obama does.

The reason it baffles, is because Obama supporters are actually a cult. Kinda like the kool aide Jin Jones cult followers. It was baffling when they all drank the koolaide and died. But that's what cult followers do, and Obama's cult followers are gulping the ### koolaide.
They are so blinded to the truth and the lies they get from their gubmint controlled DNC lapdog media that they always shoot the messenger when the "OMessiah" is questioned and the truth is reported.
