Aug 18, 2015, 11:15 PM

He was definitely the most successful

Aug 18, 2015, 11:26 PM

He had to have an IV at the Orange Bowl--put his heart and soul into that game and season.

I never bought into the argument that championships

were the primary criteria for determining who's the greatest in a team sport. Too many other factors involved in who has the best team. Admittedly, quarterback is the single most important position on the team

Most successful and best...there is a difference.

Aug 19, 2015, 12:19 AM

Check my reply. The same can be said for the entire 1981 team.

The only teams we have had that are close is 78 and 89

Look at the players that played in the nfl off the 81 team. Hard to argue against that

Not buying that one, but he definitely got it done. Homer might make my top 5 depending on whether or not my asterisked addition of Deshaun would be deemed credible (I know he's only had one injury riddled season, but we have never had a QB of this caliber here).

Here's my 5:
1. Fuller
2. ****Watson (and highly likely to move up if he plays the way we know he ought to)
3. Whitehurst
4. Homer
5. Boyd (almost put him at 4, but the record against the Coots held me off. Love him though)

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Rodney Williams...

Aug 19, 2015, 1:51 AM

...was every bit as good a quarterback as Homer Jordan...!!

Yes Fuller still number 1 at least for now, although I suspect Watson will eventually replace him there.

Re: Rodney Williams...

Aug 19, 2015, 1:58 AM

Rodney Williams was my next man up. He had moxy, poise, and toughness. You certainly have an argument.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

People forget just how good of an arm Homer had

Aug 19, 2015, 8:39 AM

he was a really accurate passer. Rodney was no slouch in that department, but Jordan was better.

But we are really splitting hairs between those 2. They should be really close in any ranking of best QBs at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Early but Deshaun Watson maybe when all is said n done

Aug 19, 2015, 12:51 AM

Hoping he gets us a title

Homer had a herd of good horses surrounding him. With another stable full on the D side that didn't give up many points. Tajh Boyd could have easily won a NC with the player's that played on the NC team!!!

Re: So, wouldn't Homer win best QB ever due to NC ring?!

Aug 19, 2015, 10:37 AM

Name a QB that has won it without talent around him?? Homer is in the top 3 at least

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well, there's at least no debate on who the 'best dressed' QB is...

Aug 19, 2015, 12:56 AM

it's all about the accessories ain't it Homer?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With that thought process all 22 starters of the National

Aug 19, 2015, 12:58 AM

Title team would be the best every.

Re: So, wouldn't Homer win best QB ever due to NC ring?!

Aug 19, 2015, 4:43 AM

By that logic, wouldn't every starter on the '81 team be the best in Clemson history at their position?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My top 5:

Aug 19, 2015, 5:25 AM

1. Steve Fuller
2. Tajh Boyd
3. Woody
4. Homer
5. Charlie Whitehurst

My top 5

Aug 19, 2015, 8:45 AM

1) Fuller
2) Jordan
3) Rodney
4) Whitehurst
5) Boyd

Honorable Mention: Mike Eppley, Brandon Streeter, Patrick Sapp (he was a 3 year starter that was so good he became a LB in the NFL)

Aug 19, 2015, 10:41 AM

Fuller started it Homer finished it and Rodney just WON. That's the top 3

Yes! I met Homer on a recruiting trip to Clemson

Aug 19, 2015, 9:09 AM

I made around exam time the year we won the National Championship. I was introduced to him by Bob Bradley of all people that day and he was incredibly friendly and humble. Homer was soft spoken and I remember shaking his hands thinking his hands were kind of small for a qb! But his heart more than made up for any physical limitations!
That was such a great day in my life. Coach Ford was not on campus that day, shows how badly he wanted me to play there lol, so I was given a tour by a few different people including Dan Benish I believe it was who took me up in the dorms to visit guys like Chuck and Rod McSwain. I saw Perry Tuttle, he was styling big time then, and rode the elevator with William Perry and Jeff Davis. I recall a different recruit making a remark about us being over the weight limit on the elevator.
I still consider that one of the greatest days ever in my life and at the time I didn't appreciate just how remarkable it really was. I was sitting in Rod McSwains dorm room and while another recruit was asking him questions I noticed there was a soap on the black and white TV and it caught my attention. Rod looked at me and asked me with a smirk on his face if I liked to watch "the stories." Lol. I was so nervous I just laughed. He said "I watch some of em." I left soon after that.
Recruiting has probably changed by leaps and bounds since then but for a high school junior that day in December was an incredible experience for me!
Homer was the leader of that team on offense just like Jeff Davis was the leader on defense. Homer led by example and grit. He literally left it all on the field as he was actually suffering from major dehydration in the OB and the resulting cramps that brought on had to be excruciating. Go Tigers!!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I too met Homer..when he was a HS sr & at a CU practice with Curly Hallman..

Aug 19, 2015, 9:30 AM

As I walked up to Coach Hall with my young son near the present practice fields he said: "Bill, meet our next great QB..Homer Jordan from Georgia."

I looked at this smallish-built young "Boy" with a shy smile & a broad nose like mine..and thought as I shook his hand that Coach Curly was just being nice.

And you know the rest of the story. I agree that Homer was a very good QB who got the job done (a Natty) but feel he had a full slate of very talented players on both O & D, and several QB's mentioned here "might" have had similar success..but in the end iT was Homer Jordan who got it done. Enough said!

GoTiGERS!

No

Whitehurst was better among others.

Lightbulb needs to turn the lightbulb back on.

Re: No

Aug 19, 2015, 10:41 AM

Better than what others?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Better than Jordan

Aug 19, 2015, 10:47 AM

Boyd was better, Fuller was better, Danzler was better. Sorry to get your jimmies all in a wade but, no, Homer was not the best.

And, a bit stupid to attempt to compare what may be the best QB to play at Clemson in Watson to guys who played 35 years ago. Listen, 35 years ago.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Waiting...35 yrs, for another Natty! Calling "Homer"!

Aug 19, 2015, 1:39 PM
