Arbitrary sideline infraction

Our sideline infraction had no bearing on the play at hand. I would bet if a ref was looking for a sideline infraction against Auburn as their player was returning Alabama's failed FG at the end of the iron bowl, they would have found one. Can you imagine the national uproar if Auburn was flagged for 5 yd sideline infraction as their guy was running 100yds for the win. Refs have that call and holding that they can call on any play.

Its kind of an unwritten rule, that IF you are going to call a sideline interference you do it earlier than the 4th quarter. Otherwise you are just trying to affect the outcome of the game. The coaches start out on the sideline, you warn them and that typically takes care of it, if not flag them in the second quarter for 5 yards and that almost takes care of it. A second interferenc call is just an offical trying to show someone "whos the boss"

very interesting thought and I agree. There is something fishy about the officiating in our game.
