Two thoughts after the Gator Bowl we can ALL agree on!

First, SC, GA and FL ALL need to make improvements to I-95 to provide for no (or little) congestion travel. I can understand wrecks, breakdowns and HWY Patrol traffic stops causing bottleneck delays but just heavy traffic should not cause a 2 hour increase in what should be a 3 hour trip.
On Thursday we left CHS at 1pm expecting to (based on GPS & prior trips) arrive in JAX 4:30ish. Actual time was 6:30 due simply to traffic snarling to a 20 to 30mph crawl forever!
Felt really sorry for all the tractor trailer drivers - can’t imagine driving a loaded clutch truck in that congestion. Pressure must be applied to legislators to fund I-95 improvements.
Second, visiting EverBank Stadium reminded me that instead of any more “improvements” to Clemson or UofSC stadiums, we need escalators and/or elevators to the upper levels! After a long walk (even without Clemson’s hills!) to the stadium, being able to hop on the escalator and avoid a ramp climb was a rare and much appreciated experience! I understand Jacksonville is tearing their stadium down to build a covered stadium. While a covered stadium at Death Valley may be pie in the sky stuff - maybe we can get their old working escalators on the cheap!? All you seasoned engineers break out your slide rules (no batteries required!) and give Clemson a cost analysis on escalator installations!😄

Maybe build an I-95 Bypass?

at taking Hwy 17 north as alternative. Would take longer on the 17 route but wouldn’t be nearly as stressful as the stop and go I-95 traffic.
One positive is the I-95 congestion makes me realize, as bad as it is, how good I-526 traffic actually is!😄

Agreed!
That bottleneck added 2.5 hours for us (I was coming from a bit further away). Simply ridiculous honestly. South Carolina is positioned in a good spot for "would be" trucking companies. And the cost of living is cheaper (for now) than those states that sandwich S.C. Build the infrastructure and perhaps attract some well-paying jobs. And ease my traffic frustration in the process, LOL!
I loved the escalators at EverBank Stadium. Be a cool addition for sure.

Florida resident here. You don't want Florida handling any interstate improvements. I moved here 12 years ago and I4 has been under construction from it's Daytona origination point to Orlando for all 12 years and countless years prior. It's always almost finished and it doesn't matter.
What Florida really needs to do is hammer down on their left lane law. We also need to get some of our more experienced drivers off the interstates. They do not have the reaction times needed to handle driving at interstate speeds. They do one of two things, drive slower or drive faster poorly.
My mom is 73. She hasn't driven on an interstate in 20 years. She's doing it correctly.
I'm also in favor of more affordable, long distance, mass transit options. Most Americans aren't so that stuff doesn't have a big market. I'm 100% ok with taking a nap on that drive that turns out to be 6 1/2 hours instead of 4 1/2 if I'm comfortable.

I95 still being two lanes in SC is a huge issue

I'm glad I generally only drive it from the Georgia line up to hwy 17 before I can get the heck off.

As to traffic going down to the Gator Bowl, on TV it looked like the stadium was half full. Imagine had there been a capacity crowd. I think it was a big week and weekend for snowbird migration to winter in Florida which was the culprit. We have several friends who were headed to their second homes on Friday.

many Tiger Paw or KY blue cars - and pretty easy to spot at 30mph!
I just didn’t expect traffic south to be that bad on Thursday from 1-4:30. Heading North on Friday after the game the traffic wasn’t nearly as bad but, the traffic south was worse that Thursday - and I didn’t think that was even possible! Friday, New Year coming up and a three day weekend likely made for a perfect storm!
Maybe Clemson Blvd traffic from I-85 to Perimeter Rd on noon kickoffs isn’t that bad after all!😄

I quite agree that road improvements are long overdue, but as long as SC keeps electing Republican legislatures, you can forget about that - or any other expenditure that would improve the quality of life in SC. 50 years of voting for the GOP has positioned this state at or near the bottom in every metric, yet the sheeple keep right on doing it. Reminds me of the people who fuss about standing in line at an understaffed DMV office; you know perfectly well they’re the same people who p!$$ and moan about paying taxes.
