'95 bulls vs. '17 Warriors (who wins)
Jun 7, 2017, 8:55 AM
|
|
1995 bulls starting lineup: Harper, Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Longley 6th man: kukoc
2017 warriors starting lineup: curry, Thompson, durant, green, pachulia 6th man: iguodala
I say bulls in a tough 7 game series. Tiger nation , what do you think and why?

what rules they playing by?

if it's by today's wuss rules, all the Bulls would foul out in the 1st quarter.
if it is by '95 rules, all the Warriors would be in the fetal position by halftime.

Why the '95 Bulls? wouldn't you want the '96 Bulls that won 72 games?
The '95 Bulls had Michael Jordan in number 45 and the Rockets won the Finals that year.

1995 Bulls were definitely my era, but i think i still have

to go with these Warriors. Last year i would've taken the Bulls, but the addition of KD makes the Warriors nearly impossible to defend.
The one thing the Bulls do have going for them is that, unlike many 90s teams, i think they could go small with Rodman at center and possibly defend the awesome small lineup of the Warriors (Iggy, Curry, Klay, KD, Green). The Bulls could counter with Rodman on Green, Pippen on KD, MJ on Curry, Kucok on Klay, and Harper on Iggy. Longley and his backup Wennington would be completely unplayable against that lineup, but they could probably get some minutes when the Warriors go bigger with Pachulia or McGee.
That said, the Warriors are just deeper with guys that can give them quality minutes. They would be able to dictate the matchups because the Bulls would be reacting to who the Warriors had on the floor and not vice versa. The big lineup of the Bulls doesn't scare the Warriors at all because Longley wasn't much more than a big stiff and Green can easily defend him. OTOH, the Bulls big lineup with Longley absolutely cannot defend the small lineup of the Warriors. They would get spread out and killed.
It would be really fun to watch, but i think the Warriors would wear the Bulls down eventually.

How are you a Cubs fan and pick against the Bulls? Whaaa?
I'm mean, c'mon man. Some homerism is allowed and preferred.
Unless you are "new" Cubs fan -

I see what you mean, but the X-Factor is Jordan. No one could defend Jordan. Here's my matchup Tree: * Harper (Bulls) vs. Curry (Warriors) [PG] Advantage - Harper, Size, Length, Defensive Stopper * Jordan (Bulls) vs. Thompson (Warriors) [SG] Advantage - Jordan * Pippen (Bulls) vs. Kevin Durant (Warriors) [SF] Even, Actually Kevin Durant is a Super Version of Cliff Robinson *Rodman (Bulls) vs. Green (Warriors) [PF] Advantage - Rodman. The master of mind games, Rodman would get in Green's head and mentally crush him. No-Brainer *Longley/Wennington (Bulls) vs. Pachulia/McGee (Warriors) Even

Depends somewhat on rules. LeBron cant handle Durant. Not sure Pippen would do any better. Jordan would get his though.
Kukoc was ahead if his time back then. He'd have a he'll of a series.

Don't even pretend to suggest James is in the same conversation when it comes to playing defense like Scottie Pippen.

as some of the great old teams.
For instance, how would the '17 Warriors fare against the '72 Lakers under '72 rules (when carrying, traveling, and double dribbling were still violations). For all "intensive" purposes, that alone would almost totally shut down today's offensive superstars.

I think any of the great Lakers teams from the 80's would give the Warriors a run for their money. There would be absolutely no defense and a ton of scoring.

Today's superstars numbers would probably be higher. They would get to play in a league that called illegal defense on a team that wasn't playing straight up man. All what past superstars had to do was beat their man and they would have to worry about a second defender rotating over.

It's hard for me to go against Jordan. He's like Deshaun in my mind. When he's under the gun and the pressures on, he steps up his game and eats pressure like candy. But when I was a kid, Michael Jordan was bigger than life, bigger than the game of basketball itself. Every kid alive wanted to be like Mike. He was a legend, he was like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Bo Jackson, a gladiator, batman and superman, a unicorn, all combined in one human being. To us kids at least.

There are just some players that excel when the mega pressure is on. Jordan is a the top of the list.
Pains me to say Brady is too ... (but I digress).
I thought Curry may show flashes of that until last year's Finals.
Bulls in 7.

It is so difficult to articulate the sense of his super-human qualities on and off the court in the 90's.
You did a very good job though -
That's why I laugh at all the modern references to the "crying jordan" meme. Basically all haters that literally have no clue ...

Rodman would have Draymond Green crying like a little girl after the first five minutes. Michael Jordan would do what Michael did and the Bulls would win in 6.

It's a totally different game in a different era. There's no telling how the Bulls would have reacted to the fast moving, 3 pointer-dominated style that exists now, and no telling how Golden State would handle the physicality of old school basketball.
They're both amazing. I'm fine with leaving it at that.
