33 years of passion for Clemson football

Aug 11, 2010, 9:43 PM

1. Tigers/ND in DV in '77...Montana drives them to the win but the Tigers got in my blood that day as well as DV.
2. Hearing the PA announcer announce that George had 98 yds. rushing and hearing the stadium erupt screaming for the D to hold him under 100 during another pasting of the Chickens.
3. Hearing the PA announcer announce that Herschel had never scored against us and feeling like the stadium was going to collapse.
4. Hearing C L E M S O N spelled out around DV and thinking that we were going to die when the upper deck fell down.
5. Hearing ND All-American TE Ken McAfee tell my father on the field after the '77 ND game, "i've never been hit that hard in my life, sir..that's the most physical team i've ever played against"
6. Hearing my father say, "Godalmighty Clemson's defense hits...the Irish are going to have to earn this one"...then seeing him use Clemson defense's film to show his HS defenses physical team defense.
7. Watching my all time favorite Tiger Jeff Bryant quietly dominate for 4 years wearing #99 and spending half the day in the opponents' backfield.
8. Watching Steve Fuller run the option like a scientist.
9. Watching Jeff Davis, the best football player to ever play at Clemson, play the game the way that Tigers are supposed to play, every play, every game.
10. Watching Dawk #### near decapitate folks making you wish that he would have played for Danny.
11. Watching Terry Kinard roam the open field, playing FS like a surgeon would.
12. Watching Homer run the option the way Fuller did and beating the Huskers at their own game.
13. Watching the Judge, Andy Headen, Levon, Wayne Simmons, Ashley Sheppard, Ed McDaniel, Anthony Simmons, Leroy Hill, Henry Walls, Wardell Rouse, Keith Adams, etc. and wondering why in the hell PSU is known as "linebacker U".
14. Being at the dump in Columbia in the Warehouse District and seeing Tony Horne and Antuan Edwards both take it to the house in the Chicken Coop and screaming to the point that i almost burst a brain blood vessel.
15. Being at the dump in Columbia and witnessing 63-17 and seeing Ben Hall go to the house right towards me and almost bursting that same blood vessel.
16. Yelling at Keith Adams on the sidelines (when working sidelines security as a SCHP Trooper) at the dump in Columbia to "knock someone's head off" and having him walk over to me after the series and say, "I GOT ONE FOR YOU SIR!"...having Robert Carswell hi five me on the same sidelines and say, "they don't want to mess with the Tiger D sir...THEY'RE QUITTING!!!!!" then getting reprimanded by my supervisor for being seen on video hi fiving Carswell while on duty in uniform.
17. watching CJ for the last 4 years show ridiculous talent can go with class and character in orange and purple.
18. emailing Dawk from Iraq and having him email back telling me that he wears his Tiger Football shirt under his pads in the NFL because "i'll always be a TIGER bro". my wife went to HS with him and he's as good of a guy as we've ever had in the program.
19. watching a defense totally take over a game to the point that you could SEE a team quit and be sick of getting hit in the face....my Company Commander several years ago played TE for U of Md in the late '80's to early '90's...i didn't lead on that i was a Tiger fan at all when i asked him about opponents he had faced...this was his response, "we hated playing Clemson...home or away..their defense never talked, hit you like you stole something, were fast as hell, fundamentally sound and you were sore for about two weeks from the game. they were the most physical, brutal football team that we played every year and they came at you all day"....
20. seeing DV erupt when the Tigers appear at the top of the Hill for the last 33 years and realizing that there is no place in the world i'd rather be and nothing else other than my family and kids and my fellow Marines that i love more than Clemson Football and it will never change.
