Peter Woods ranked in Top 25 prospects if every college football player was NFL draft-eligible |
Peter Woods still has at least two years left in the college game under the current rules, but one outlet sees him among the top pro prospects, eligible or not for the NFL.
Pro Football Focus ranked the Top 50 prospects under those conditions, which featured two Clemson products in Woods at No. 25 and Nate Wiggins at No. 50. "Even though the former five-star recruit had to compete for playing time with two interior defensive linemen who will get drafted in 2024, Ruke Orhorhoro and Tyler Davis, the true freshman still shined," PFF's Max Chadwick said. "Woods ranked third among FBS defensive tackles in pass-rush win rate (17.1%) and seventh in run-defense grade (88.6). His 87.6 PFF grade was the third-best mark by a true freshman interior defensive lineman since PFF began charting college football in 2014. The only two above him were Dexter Lawrence and Ed Oliver in 2016, each of whom currently makes more than $15 million a year in the NFL." Woods is the second-highest-rated 2026 NFL draft prospect, trailing just Ohio State's Caleb Downs (No. 21). PFF's latest mock draft has Wiggins waiting until Day 2 for a selection, despite the outlet having him as the No. 24-ranked prospect. "Wiggins has the tools of a first-round, high-impact cornerback. His athleticism and competitiveness will never be in question, and those two characteristics should produce a long-term starter," says his PFF scouting report.
