by - Assoc. Editor -

The San Francisco 49ers held a workout to find some running back depth on Monday.

The running backs at the tryout were Andre Ellington, Shane Vereen, Charcandrick West, Matthew Days, and Jeremy McNichols.

It appears that only one made the cut as second-year player Dayes was signed to the practice squad.

Ellington last played with the Houston Texans in 2017.

For his NFL career, the former Clemson standout has 418 rushes for 1,752 career rushing yards and 1,296 receiving yards with 13 total touchdowns (10 rushing, 3 receiving) over five seasons as a pro.

During his first two pro seasons with the Cardinals, he had 319 rushes for 1,312 yards and an impressive 85 receptions for 766 yards.

Ellington was drafted out of Clemson in the sixth round (#187th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
