Clemson ranked as Top 5 toughest environment in college football |
Clemson football has defended Death Valley with some big wins over the years, particularly in the
Dabo Swinney era.
When FOX Sports lead college football analyst Joel Klatt assembled his "toughest environments" in the game, and Clemson made the list at No. 5. “Clemson, they had a stretch where they went 62-1 at home from 2013 to 2022,” Klatt said. “That’s ridiculous. So yes, it’s a combination of — their team has been really good, but that’s also a place that’s just ridiculously tough to play at. Great environment there.” The full Top 5 for Klatt is LSU, Penn State, Alabama, Oregon and Clemson. Clemson is scheduled to travel to one of those sites in 2026, heading to LSU to kick off the season. LSU is set to come to Clemson's Death Valley in 2025 to start that campaign. As referenced by Klatt, Clemson had a 63-game stretch from 2013 to 2022 in Memorial Stadium that the only loss was to Pittsburgh in 2016, which preceded a stretch run to Swinney's first national title in Clemson that season. The Tigers have lost one home contest each in the last two seasons, however, to South Carolina in 2022, by a point, and Florida State, in overtime, in 2023. Clemson's 2024 home slate starts with Appalachian State on September 7, then NC State (9/21) and Stanford (9/28) also that month, Virginia in October (10/19), and Louisville (11/2), The Citadel (11/23) and South Carolina (11/30) in November.
