Mickey:
When the news was confirmed that BYU was leaving the MWC and going to be an independent, rumors began circulating out here that BYU was already talking to Clemson, Texas Tech, and Notre Dame for possible home-and-home series. Have you heard anything mentioning this or not in Clemson? I would love to make a road trip to Provo...it's a tad bit closer for me to get to see the Tigers in person, even though I still come back for 2 games every year.

Bart,
Clemson is denying those reports. I am not sure who is right here because I do not know the writer who was reporting it from BYU's standpoint. But I do know at this point Clemson's people are saying there is nothing to the report. I wish I had better news for you. Maybe they can work something out.
Mickey,
What is the inside scoop on the freefall of Willy Korn from FBS QB prospect to DII North Greenville? He couldn't even make the depth chart at QB at Marshall? Stunning. Any news out of Marshall on why or how he couldn't make the depth chart? Do you have any insight into this whole situation?

NJTIGER,
First, let me say that I am biased towards Willy Korn. I have always liked the kid and his family. But it is still very obvious to me that he is no where near the quarterback he was before the shoulder issues. I was on the field when he was in high school and coaches from LSU, Georgia and Clemson were there and they were raving about Korn. He had a much stronger arm and a much better release when he was a high school junior than he did after his shoulder surgery at Clemson. He is not even close to what he was. He admitted in an interview this summer that last year it felt like someone was sticking an ice pick in his shoulder every time he threw the ball. He changed his motion as a result. Shoulders are ball and socket joints and completed joints. I saw an interview with Kerry Wood the other day and he said he has had both shoulder and elbow surgeries. Wood said he would rather have ten elbow surgeries rather than one shoulder surgery. One other quick note, Cullen Harper threw 26 touchdowns and 7 interceptions as a junior. He had shoulder surgery after the USC game as a junior and had 12 touchdowns and 13 picks as a senior. Harper was not even close to the same quarterback and his arm strength was noticeably different. I don't think Korn would have ever beaten out Kyle Parker even if he was healthy but I also know Korn is not the same guy he was before he got hurt.
Hi Mickey,
I saw a little bit of the U. of S.Carolina game tonight and have to admit that they looked good. I was especially impressed with Lattimore and noticed that he is from Byrnes. I admit, I'm not the biggest follower of recruiting news but it seems like Clemson used to get all of the guys from Byrnes that were highly ranked (possibly over ranked considering the actual on field results). Was the lack of production, especially the Korn odyssey, the reason Clemson missed on Lattimore? Was this a one time thing with this guy or is it part of larger pattern of not getting Byrnes kids? Thanks for the blog and incites!Brent
Brent,
Marcus Lattimore gave Clemson an early look but like so many in this state, he grew up pulling for one team and it was South Carolina. His sister went to USC and the Gamecocks wrapped him up very early even though he announced for them late in the process.
