Latest odds released on key Clemson football matchups |
DraftKings became the latest outlet to release some early college football lines,
including five from Clemson's Tigers.
That starts with Clemson's border state rivalry with Georgia and a neutral site matchup in Atlanta on Aug. 31, where the Bulldogs are an eye-popping 13.5-point favorite. Next up in the early odds is the ACC opener at home versus NC State, where Clemson is favored by 10. The following big ACC battle at Florida State has the Tigers again in an underdog role, by four points. Clemson is then favored in two of the ACC closers in November, hosting Louisville (-9.5) and traveling to Virginia Tech (-5.5). Former CBS Sports and longtime college football analyst Barrett Sallee commented on the hefty spread versus Georgia recently. "That is disrespectful. That is insane. And yet it’s the right line. That’s how big the gap has gotten between Georgia and Clemson," Sallee said. "Is that an indictment of Clemson? Yeah. Is it more of a compliment to Georgia? Yeah, I think it’s more of a compliment to Georgia. We don’t know what Clemson will be... "It is absolutely both. Absolutely both. In years past, Clemson would have the benefit of the doubt, most specifically because of the defense — I know we’re talking about offense and Trevor and Deshaun and all that stuff — most specifically because of the defense. They regenerate defensive linemen after defensive linemen, and that’s what’s ultimately led them to the success they had in 2016 and 2018. They haven’t been able to do that. Do they have that this year? Not as much as that, as they had in those years, and as a result, they’re going to be relying a lot on the offense and I just don’t buy it.
